Plot-line:
A heartfelt story of a respected professional dancer sidelined by a brain aneurysm. We follow his life through his professional dance career to its heights. While preparing to represent the US in a dance competition in Seoul Korea he suffers a brain aneurism that ruptures multiple times. Faced with malpractice and medical set backs, his family focuses on the positive. After multiple surgeries and increasing medical debt a sleuth of entertainers come together in an unprecedented night of dance to raise money for him and his family. Life altering, his brain injury affects everyone around him.
The Story:
ACT I: Who is Richard “Steel” Vazquez
We follow the career of Richard “Steelo” Vasquez (Step Up 2 & 3, You Got Served, Epic Movie, & Paramountʼs webisodic League of Extraordinary Dancers), professional dancer, model, actor and b-boy, from the heights of his career.
His integrity and his faith in Christ draws people from all cultures making him an icon in the hip hop dance culture.
Practicing for an International B-boy event he feels something snap while attempting a head spin move. On father’s day while attending the Oasis church he suffers another rupture in his brain and is rushed to the hospital.
ACT II: Depths Of His Injury
After a brain aneurysm sidelines him, he undergoes multiple surgeries. Left in an incapacitated state he loses his memory. His rehabilitation consists of him relearning how to walk, talk as well as the simple pleasures of life.
Horrified, his young wife is now catapulted into a new role. A mom, wife and caregiver; we follow her and her newfound inner strength.
His crew of dancers distraught over his injury and the thought of him clinging on to life lose badly in competition in Seoul Korea.
ACT III: The Recovery
Things look promising during rehab however he suffers another rupture in his brain. After undergoing another surgery it is discovered that his new setback is due to malpractice by a well-known doctor at UCLA on a previous surgical procedure. With bills amounting over a million dollars, and the possibility of medical bankruptcy his family chooses the high road refusing to sue and focus on his recovery.
His integrity and the respect procured from fellow entertainers allures the best in the entertainment industry in support.
An unprecedented night of dance brings out the best performers in the entertainment industry. An ensemble with a family oriented theme on the same ticket grace the stage in his honor to raise money to assist him and his family.
